North Carolina has a broad range of climate conditions due to its three distinct regions: the Appalachian Mountains, the Piedmont, and the Coastal Plains. This topographical variety along with the presence of the Gulf Stream off the coast, gives our state the largest climate variability of any state east of the Mississippi. This requires the integration of all our knowledge on the interactions between land, air, and sea, in order to provide information on the regional and local climate variations.
Climate Normals

Calculated by the National Climatic Data Center, the 1971-2000 historical climate normals of temperature and precipitation have been made available on our website. These normals are generated on both a monthly and daily basis for stations in the NWS Cooperative network.

Climate Summaries
We have temporarily turned off all climate summaries in light of some potentially incorrect calculations, and will hopefully have the issues fixed soon. Our apologies for the inconvenience.
