About the CRONOS H2O Database

The NC CRONOS H2O Database is maintained by the State Climate Office of North Carolina. Data from 3629 water sites are archived in this database for retrieval. While the main focus of the database is to provide data for sites within North Carolina, we also archive data from sites in the surrounding states.

Source of Water Data

Data from water sites in the CRONOS H2O database are retrieved through the Internet, and ingested on a regular basis. These sites are maintained by various government agencies, such as the U.S. Geological Survey, the NC DENR Division of Water Resources, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and the Tennessee Valley Authority.


Sites within the Database

We are currently archiving data from 1979 sites in North Carolina, 672 in Tennessee, 364 in Virginia, 342 in South Carolina, 220 in Georgia, 40 in Alabama, 7 in Kentucky, and 1 in Mississippi. For information about the site networks within the CRONOS H2O Database, click here [3].


What is a CRONOS?

Cronos was the father of the Greek god Zeus. Cronos was also the most high god before the Greek gods took over. He was also the god of harvest.
